Meet Chef Anansa Davis
Anansa has always had a passion for entertaining and sharing food from her homeland with friends and family. Coming from humble beginnings, Anansa grew up in the village of Agricola on the East Bank of Demerara in Guyana, but didn’t have the desire for preparing food that was readily available on every corner and restaurant. After living in New York for over twenty years and being challenged with finding authentic food Guyanese cuisine, Anansa began preparing the dishes on her own.
Anansa’s favorite Guyanese dessert is our amazing Black Cake, a Christmas dessert, which is made with soaked fruits and wine. In 2019, Anansa’s mother shared her recipe with after changing some of the ingredients , coined her very own black cake. In 2020, Anansa started to bake and share her black cake on a small scale and got received outstanding reviews! From here, Anansa pivoted from her work in the pharmaceutical field, to dive into the culinary arts to master the art of baking and pastry skills. In 2023 friends and family convinced Anansa to start selling her famous black cake on a commercial scale, birthing ‘Black Cake Magic’.
To continue her mastery, Anansa decided to enroll into the Pastry and Baking Arts Culinary program at the Institute of Culinary Education New York where she gained intense professional kitchen training and culinary education, which she shares within Black Cake Magic every day
As Anansa continues this journey, her one promise to every customer is to: "Do it right, or not do it at all".
